# Commercial appliance repair cost, band by band.

Bands rather than prices, because the same repair costs differently on a freestanding unit and on a built-in. What does not change is the order — the cheap causes are also the common ones — or the rule that decides repair against replace.

## Commercial equipment is priced after it has been tested on site.

The four steps rank commercial jobs against one another; they are not a quote for the unit in your kitchen or laundry. A walk-in running warm may need a coil cleaning, a fan motor, a defrost heater or a compressor, and a fryer that shuts off may want a thermostat, a high-limit or a gas valve; a phone call cannot separate those. Your unit is measured and tested first, then you get the cost and the expected downtime, and only with your go-ahead does a part go in.

The bands, job by job

### When you call, ask what the commercial visit costs, whether after-hours rates apply, and whether that fee is deducted once the repair is approved.

### Your unit's number comes on site, once the testing is done, and no part is changed without your approval.

### If a unit is not worth repairing, you hear it plainly with the reasons, and nothing is charged beyond the visit.

## What a repair usually costs.

Weigh a repair against what a replacement truly costs the business, not just the catalog figure for a new unit. A new walk-in condensing unit, fryer battery, combi oven or dish machine also means delivery, the gas, water, drain or electrical connection, sometimes a hood or permit check, staff learning a new controller, and the shifts the station is down while you wait for it. Set beside that, gaskets, fans, thermostats, pilots, door locks and fill valves are small, and most mid-size repairs still win. The balance turns when a unit has had several major repairs in a year, runs on a refrigerant or a controller the maker no longer supports, or has a tank, shell or drum that is failing; then the technician writes out both sums, with the downtime each one costs, and the choice is yours. A preventive maintenance plan is the cheapest way to move repairs off the busy nights.

| Repair | Relative cost | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| [Walk-in evaporator fan, defrost heater or drain line heater, door gasket, frame heater, expansion valve, leak repair, compressor or condensing unit](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/walk-in-cooler-repair/) | moderate to highest | An evaporator fan motor, a new door gasket or a defrost termination switch is the lighter end. A defrost heater set, a frame heater or an expansion valve sits in the middle, and a leak found, repaired and recharged, or a compressor or a whole condensing unit on the roof, is the top of the scale. |
| [Reach-in, pass-through or prep table gasket, hinge, fan motor, thermostat or controller, defrost heater, leak repair or compressor](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/reach-in-and-prep-table-repair/) | moderate | A cleaned condenser, a gasket or a hinge cam is modest. A fan motor, a thermostat or a controller with its probe comes next, and a leak repair with a recharge or a compressor in a self-contained cabinet is the fuller job. |
| [Fryer pilot assembly, thermopile, thermostat or probe, high-limit, gas valve, ignition module, element, contactor or filter pump motor](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/commercial-fryer-repair/) | low to moderate | A thermopile, a pilot assembly or a high-limit is the small end. A thermostat, a probe or an ignition module is a step up, and a gas valve, an element set or a filtration pump motor sits at the top. |
| [Convection or combi blower motor, door switch or gasket, igniter or element, core probe, level probe, steam generator or controller](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/commercial-oven-and-combi-repair/) | moderate to highest | A door gasket, a door switch or a probe is the lighter work. A blower motor, an igniter or an element comes next, and a steam generator, a descaling job that has gone too far or a main controller on a combi is the largest repair on this page. |
| [Cooking line pilot, thermocouple, burner or orifice, safety valve, griddle thermostat, regulator or quick-disconnect hose, leak-checked](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/commercial-cooking-line-gas-repair/) | low to moderate | Cleaning a pilot or a burner and replacing a thermocouple is modest. A safety valve, a griddle thermostat or a regulator is in the middle, and several sections of a line, or a new hose with its restraint cable, make the fuller job. |
| [Dish machine tank heater or booster element, thermostat, fill valve, float switch, drain valve, wash pump seal or motor, conveyor drive](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/dish-machine-repair/) | moderate | A fill valve, a float switch or a drain valve is the small end. A tank heater, a booster element or a pump seal is a step up, and a wash pump motor, a booster tank or a conveyor drive on a long machine is the top of the band. |
| [Laundry machine door lock, belt, bearings and seal, drain valve, inverter or motor; tumbler igniter, flame sensor, gas valve coil or airflow switch](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/commercial-laundry-machine-repair/) | moderate | A door lock, a belt, a drain valve cleared of coins or a tumbler igniter is the lighter end. An airflow switch, a gas valve coil or a payment reader sits in the middle, and bearings with the tub seal, an inverter or a drive motor is the fuller job. |
| [Controller, touch panel, probe or sensor, relay, contactor, power supply, door switch or interlock, tested before anything is changed](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/commercial-controls-and-board-repair/) | moderate | A probe, a door switch or a contactor is modest. A relay board or a power supply is in the middle, and a main controller or a touch panel, set back up with your setpoints and cycle values, is the dearest part here. |
| [Scheduled maintenance visit: coils and drains cleaned, gaskets and doors checked, thermostats calibrated, gas leak check, temperatures logged](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/preventive-maintenance-plan/) | lowest | A routine maintenance visit per unit is the smallest item on this page. Worn parts found along the way are quoted as their own repair, and nothing is replaced during the visit before you agree. |

## What the diagnostic visit covers.

The first visit decides what the repair actually is. The fee, and whether it is credited against the repair, is said when you book, before anyone comes out.

[The diagnostic visit](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/diagnostic-visit/)

01

### What the unit did and when heard from the manager or shift lead, and the temperature or service log looked at.

02

### The readings the unit lives by taken: box and product temperatures, gas pressure, oil or rinse temperature, fill and drain.

03

### The parts in the chain tested with gauges, a manometer and a meter, and stored codes and controller history read.

04

### A written finding per unit: each failed or worn part, the work it needs, its cost and downtime, or a plain word that it is not worth repairing.

## What moves the price.

Five things decide where in its band a repair lands. None of them is known for certain until a technician has seen the commercial appliance.

[The types](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/types/)

### Cold storage, cooking, dish machine or laundry

A reach-in gasket or a fryer thermostat is a short job on the spot. Walk-ins bring the box, the evaporator and a condensing unit that may sit on the roof. Combis and dish machines add water, scale and drains, and laundry machines add drives, suspension and payment systems.

### When the work can happen

A visit during quiet hours keeps the line or the laundry room running. Work before opening, after closing, overnight or on a holiday may carry a different rate, and it is often still the cheaper choice once lost sales are counted.

### Which part gave out

Gaskets, pilots, thermocouples, probes, door switches and fill valves sit at the low end. Fans, thermostats, igniters, heaters and pump seals are a step up. Compressors, condensing units, steam generators, inverters and main controllers are the high end.

### How hard the unit works and where it sits

A reach-in beside the fryers or a dish machine on hard water ages far faster than the same model in a quiet back room. Rooftop condensing units, stacked ovens and machines bolted in a tight row take longer to reach and to work on.

### Make, model and parts supply

Common gaskets, thermostats, igniters and door locks usually arrive quickly. Controllers, steam generators, inverters and parts for older units may need ordering, which adds downtime and can decide the question alone. A photo of the data plate sent ahead lets us check part availability before the technician drives out.

## Not every commercial appliance breaks the same way.

Commercial cold storage keeps product at safe holding in reach-ins, prep tables and walk-in boxes; commercial cooking equipment covers fryers, griddles, charbroilers, convection and combi ovens, steamers and holding cabinets; dish machines wash and sanitize racks at set temperatures in a door-type, undercounter or conveyor frame; and commercial laundry equipment means washer-extractors and tumblers, from a laundromat's coin row to a hotel's on-premise laundry. Which group is the unit that stopped?

### Commercial cold storage

Reach-in and pass-through cabinets, walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers, prep and sandwich tables, undercounter units and blast chillers that hold a kitchen's food at safe temperatures.

### Commercial cooking equipment

Fryers, griddles, charbroilers, restaurant ranges, convection and combi ovens, steamers, kettles, holding cabinets and toasters, on gas or electric, that make up the hot side of a kitchen line.

### Commercial dish machines

Undercounter, door-type and conveyor dish machines with their booster heaters and chemical feeds, the warewashing station that washes and sanitizes every rack before it goes back on the line.

### Commercial laundry equipment

Coin, card and app-paid front-load machines, washer-extractors, stacked units and tumble dryers in laundromats, multi-housing laundry rooms, hotels, gyms and on-premise laundries.

## Questions about the price.

### What does the commercial diagnostic visit cost?

The booking form shows the trip fee before you send it, and says whether that fee is credited toward the repair once the business approves it.

### Why are commercial repairs shown in bands, not prices?

A walk-in running warm can be a dirty coil, a failed fan motor, a stuck defrost timer, a refrigerant leak or a compressor, and a unit on a roof or in a basement adds time to any of them. A real figure exists only after the unit has run under load in front of a technician. The bands rank the jobs from an hour at the unit to a full day.

### Can we decline the repair after the diagnosis?

Yes. The estimate stays open, and if the business turns it down, the trip fee is the whole bill.

### Could the invoice grow after we approve the repair?

No. The price you approved for that repair stays put. If opening the unit turns up something else, such as a second leak on a walk-in or a corroded wash arm behind a failed pump, you are asked about it separately before any of it is done.
