Error codes

# Commercial appliance error codes, read properly.

A code narrows the search and is also the thing most often read wrong: the same characters mean different things on different brands, and a fair number of the codes people look up are not failures at all — they are modes the appliance was left in.

## Find your code, make by make.

Type the characters exactly as the display shows them, or pick the make. Each code has a page of its own: what it means on that brand, what to check, and what not to do.

### Only confirmed codes

Every code here is taken from the manufacturer's own documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. If yours is not listed, book with the exact characters and the full model number, and we will tell you whether it is one we take.

## Three things before you look it up.

A code is a lead, not a verdict. These decide whether the answer you find will be any use.

01

### Copy the code exactly

The code, the message or the flashing light, just as the controller shows it. Take a photo first, because killing power at the breaker can clear it.

02

### Photograph the data plate

Inside the door of a reach-in or a fryer, on the side of a combi, on the evaporator of a walk-in, on the back of an extractor. One code means a probe on one make and a drain on another.

03

### Is anything at risk right now?

Gas in the air, flame where it should not be, a burning smell, water near power, or a box above 41°F with food inside: act on that first and book today. A code on a unit that still holds its temperature can wait for a scheduled visit.

## What each kind of code means.

Codes fall into a handful of families. The family says more about the likely repair than the characters do — and one of them is not a repair at all.

[How to read a code](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/problems/commercial-error-code/)

### Mode, not a failure

29 codes

Nothing on the unit has broken; the controller is reporting a state it chose or one somebody set. A defrost pauses cooling for a scheduled melt and shows a warmer air reading for a while, a combi asks for a delime or runs its clean cycle and locks the door until it ends, a dish machine or a laundry machine sits in energy save between busy periods, and a door-open reminder beeps after a long delivery. No part is needed: letting the cycle finish, or the key sequence in the manual, brings the unit back.

### Temperature and alarms

72 codes

The controller has seen a temperature outside the band it was set for and is saying so: a box above its alarm point, a fryer vat or an oven cavity that tripped its high-limit, or a dish machine rinse that never came up to heat. Often the cause sits outside the unit, such as a door left open during a delivery, a coil packed with grease, a kitchen far hotter than the maker allows or a booster fed cold water. Checking the door, the coil and the air around the unit is fair; move the product if a cold box stays above 41°F, and book the visit.

### Sensors and probes

62 codes

A probe is handing the controller a reading it cannot trust, or none at all: a box or coil sensor torn loose from its clip, a fryer probe coated in carbon from oil left too long between filterings, a combi core probe with a kinked cable, or a connector gone green from steam and cleaning chemicals. The unit then runs on, stops, or shuts the heat or the cooling off to protect itself. Letting it cool and restarting it as the manual describes is fair; a probe that still reads wrong sits behind a panel, and that is a visit.

### Compressor and cooling

16 codes

The unit is running but not moving heat out of the box the way it should. On a walk-in that is often a condensing unit on the roof choking on cottonwood or grease, a condenser fan that stopped, an evaporator fan or defrost heater that failed so the coil iced solid, or a slow refrigerant leak; a reach-in adds a door gasket or heater that lets warm air in. Cleaning the condenser face with the power off and checking that the doors close are fair first steps; the refrigerant circuit, the compressor and every line stay with a technician.

### Ignition and gas

15 codes

The unit tried to light and never proved a flame, or lit and then lost it. On a fryer, a griddle, a combi or a gas tumbler the ordinary reasons come first: the gas valve at the unit left partly closed after cleaning, a quick-disconnect hose not fully seated, an igniter crusted with grease or lint, a flame sensor or thermopile that no longer reads the heat, or a draft from a hood or a door pulling the pilot away. Checking the valve and running the reset the manual names are fair; if you smell gas, get everyone out first, and the gas valve, the sensor and every fitting stay with a technician.

### Water, fill and drain

48 codes

Water is not arriving, not reaching its level, not heating or not leaving on time. A dish machine may be short of fill because a supply valve is half closed or its line strainer is clogged, it may drain slowly through a scrap basket full of debris, or its booster may be too scaled to heat the rinse; a combi's steam generator may be scaled or its water treatment exhausted; a washer-extractor may time out on a slow drain. Opening the supply valve, cleaning strainers with the unit off and checking the drain line are fair; a pump, a fill valve, a heater or a leak near wiring is a visit.

### Motors and drives

27 codes

Something that should turn is not turning, or not at the speed the controller expects. A washer-extractor's drive or its inverter may stop the spin when the load is out of balance or a bearing drags, a tumbler's belt may slip so the drum barely moves, a convection or combi fan may slow on worn bearings and bake unevenly, and a dish machine's wash pump may hum without spraying. Redistributing a load, confirming the door is latched and running the machine's own test cycle are fair; a drum, a belt or a motor is a visit, and nobody reaches into a drum that could still move.

### Controls and power

65 codes

The controller itself is reporting trouble, or the supply behind it is: a display with dead segments, a keypad that stopped responding after steam or degreaser got behind it, relays that stick, stored recipes or cycles that vanished overnight, a blown control fuse, or one leg of a three-phase feed missing so half the heat or the pump is gone. A full power cycle at the breaker, done as the manual describes, clears a passing glitch; a code that returns, a scorched smell or any sign of moisture behind the panel means the breaker stays off, and that is a visit.

## Questions about the codes.

### The code on our unit is not here. What now?

A code gets a page only after we have read it in the maker's own manual. Until then, type the code or the flashing light into the booking and the technician checks it against the manual for your serial.

### Two units show the same code. Is it the same problem?

Not necessarily. Each maker writes its own table, and the same characters can mean a failed probe on a reach-in controller and a drain timeout on a washer-extractor. Always read a code together with that unit's data plate.

### Can the crew clear a commercial code themselves?

Sometimes. Check that the gas valve is open, the breaker is on, the water supply is on, the drain is clear and the filters are clean, then run the reset the manual describes. A code that returns within a day points to a part, and after a gas smell, a fire or a burning smell, skip the reset and book.

### The controller shows a code but the unit works. Is something broken?

Maybe not. Many controllers report a state rather than a failure: a defrost that pauses cooling, a delime or clean cycle on a combi, an energy save setting between rushes, or a door-open alarm. Those pages explain how to leave the state without any part.
