E89 is called out when the ignition module reports a failed light-off on table-top models or the upper burner of roll-in models. The manual allows two attempts to clear it; a third time means the oven is taken out of service. On a fryer, a griddle, a combi or a gas tumbler the ordinary reasons come first: the gas valve at the unit left partly closed after cleaning, a quick-disconnect hose not fully seated, an igniter crusted with grease or lint, a flame sensor or thermopile that no longer reads the heat, or a draft from a hood or a door pulling the pilot away.
