--- title: "Continental E2: the white ambient probe has an error" description: "What E2 means on Continental E2: the white ambient probe has an errors, what to check before booking, and when it is not a failure at all." url: "https://commercialappliancerepair.center/error-codes/continental-refrigerator-e2/" --- # Continental E2: the white ambient probe has an error Some Continental units carry a third, white-leaded probe by the condensing unit to read the room air where the unit breathes. ## What E2 actually means. Some Continental units carry a third, white-leaded probe by the condensing unit to read the room air where the unit breathes. E2 says the control cannot read it. The cabinet can still cool, but whatever the control uses that reading for is working without it. Continental Refrigerator commercial appliance display What to do when E2 shows on the commercial appliance ### Kind of code Sensors and probes A probe is handing the controller a reading it cannot trust, or none at all: a box or coil sensor torn loose from its clip, a fryer probe coated in carbon from oil left too long between filterings, a combi core probe with a kinked cable, or a connector gone green from steam and cleaning chemicals. The unit then runs on, stops, or shuts the heat or the cooling off to protect itself. Letting it cool and restarting it as the manual describes is fair; a probe that still reads wrong sits behind a panel, and that is a visit. ### Usually leads to Commercial controls and board repair Controllers, touch panels, relays, contactors and interlocks tested, and replaced only when the evidence says so. ### Shows up as Commercial Appliance Error Code on a Combi, Fryer, Dish Machine or Laundry Display A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone. ### Make Continental Refrigerator Continental Refrigerator units in a busy kitchen get looked at with the doors shut for a while first, so the tech sees how the box recovers on its own. ### Source Continental Refrigerator operations manual, easy electronic control for refrigerators, freezers and warmers Listed in the error code table of Continental's easy electronic control manual, the control used on its reach-ins, prep units and warmers. ## Before you book, in this order. Each step comes from Continental Refrigerator's own guidance for E2 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Check the cabinet temperature with a thermometer and log it. 02 Keep the grille and condenser area clear of boxes and dust. 03 Book a visit and mention E2 so the white probe is checked. ### Still there? Check the cabinet temperature with a thermometer and log it. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Does every Continental have an E2 probe? Not every unit uses an ambient probe. If yours shows E2, it does, and the probe or its wire needs checking. ### Can heat from nearby equipment cause E2 on a Continental? Heat alone gives a high reading, not an error. E2 means an open or shorted probe circuit. ### Can I keep using my Continental with E2? Usually yes while the food stays cold. Keep the log going until it is repaired. --- **[Read on the site: Continental E2: the white ambient probe has an error](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/error-codes/continental-refrigerator-e2/)** **[Book a visit with CommercialApplianceRepair.center](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/schedule/)**
