Unlike most Garland codes, E12 does not shut the unit off. It warns of a high heat sink or cook zone temperature, and the unit carries on in a power reduction mode. Garland's chart gives it no flash pattern, and E13 shares its row. Garland commercial appliance display What to do when E12 shows on the commercial appliance ### Kind of code Temperature and alarms The controller has seen a temperature outside the band it was set for and is saying so: a box above its alarm point, a fryer vat or an oven cavity that tripped its high-limit, or a dish machine rinse that never came up to heat. Often the cause sits outside the unit, such as a door left open during a delivery, a coil packed with grease, a kitchen far hotter than the maker allows or a booster fed cold water. Checking the door, the coil and the air around the unit is fair; move the product if a cold box stays above 41°F, and book the visit. ### Usually leads to Reach-in and prep table repair Reach-ins, pass-throughs, prep tables and blast chillers: gaskets, hinges, fans, thermostats, condensers and compressors. ### Shows up as Commercial Appliance Error Code on a Combi, Fryer, Dish Machine or Laundry Display A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone. ### Make Garland Garland equipment on a cooking line is usually looked at after close, when every burner is cold and the grates can come up without rushing a cook. ### Source Garland Induction Counter-Top Series dual base-line models GI-SH/DU/BA installation, operation and maintenance manual, part number 4532290 Rev 3 Garland counter-top induction cook-tops, woks and griddles (GI-SH/DU/BA, GI-BH/BA, GI-SH/BA, GI-SH/GR). Each step comes from Garland's own guidance for E12 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Let the pan and the unit cool for a few minutes. 02 Check the pan material and avoid heating an empty pan at full power. 03 Clean the air filter and clear the vents. 04 Book a visit if power reduction happens every service, since airflow or a sensor may need attention. ### Still there? Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do E12 is not a failure, and the unit keeps working at lower power. It is the stage before overheating codes such as E03 and E04 stop the unit completely. ## What you may notice with it. The commercial appliance problem E12 tends to arrive with. Let the pan and the unit cool for a few minutes. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why does my Garland induction lose power during a rush? E12 is the likely reason: the unit is protecting itself from heat. A clean filter and cool intake air help it hold full power. ### Does E12 on a Garland need a technician? Not at first. Only when it appears daily with good airflow is it worth booking. ### Why is there no flash code for E12? Garland's chart lists E12 under no flash code, so only units with a digital display name it. --- **[Read on the site: Garland E12: the induction unit is cutting power to cool](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/error-codes/garland-e12/)** **[Book a visit with CommercialApplianceRepair.center](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/schedule/)**
