The condenser sheds the heat taken out of the cabinet. When it runs hot the control first warns with cht, log code 17. If it gets worse, CHt, log code 18, switches the compressor off and needs a manual reset. A dirty coil or blocked airflow is the usual cause. On a walk-in that is often a condensing unit on the roof choking on cottonwood or grease, a condenser fan that stopped, an evaporator fan or defrost heater that failed so the coil iced solid, or a slow refrigerant leak; a reach-in adds a door gasket or heater that lets warm air in.
