The VC5 control expects the cavity to warm once it calls for heat. When eight minutes pass with no measured increase, it shows E3. If the burner is lit and running, Vulcan points to the control board; if the burner is not lit, the list runs through the relay, the 24-volt transformer, the motor and centrifugal switch, the ignition board and the control board. Vulcan commercial appliance display · also shown as E 3 What to do when E3 shows on the commercial appliance ### Kind of code Temperature and alarms The controller has seen a temperature outside the band it was set for and is saying so: a box above its alarm point, a fryer vat or an oven cavity that tripped its high-limit, or a dish machine rinse that never came up to heat. Often the cause sits outside the unit, such as a door left open during a delivery, a coil packed with grease, a kitchen far hotter than the maker allows or a booster fed cold water. Note whether you can see or hear the burner running when E3 appears. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Why does my Vulcan convection oven show E3 on cold mornings? E3 depends on the burner lighting and the fan running. A motor that is slow to start or an ignition problem that shows up cold can both trigger it. ### Does the fan matter for E3 on a Vulcan? Yes. Vulcan's list of causes includes the motor and its centrifugal switch alongside the ignition parts, so a fan problem can show up as E3. ### Is E3 on a Vulcan oven a gas leak? No. It means no heat is reaching the cavity.
