When the steam generator cannot deliver during a cook, the ChefsCombi does not abandon the product. It completes the cycle in controlled-humidity convection instead and shows E90. Vulcan asks for the service provider if the message returns. Vulcan commercial appliance display What to do when E90 shows on the commercial appliance ### Kind of code Water, fill and drain Water is not arriving, not reaching its level, not heating or not leaving on time. A dish machine may be short of fill because a supply valve is half closed or its line strainer is clogged, it may drain slowly through a scrap basket full of debris, or its booster may be too scaled to heat the rinse; a combi's steam generator may be scaled or its water treatment exhausted; a washer-extractor may time out on a slow drain. Opening the supply valve, cleaning strainers with the unit off and checking the drain line are fair; a pump, a fill valve, a heater or a leak near wiring is a visit. ### Usually leads to Dish machine repair Undercounter, door-type and conveyor dish machines: tank heaters, boosters, wash pumps, fill and drain valves. ### Shows up as Commercial Appliance Error Code on a Combi, Fryer, Dish Machine or Laundry Display A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone. ### Make Vulcan Vulcan equipment is often seen after close, once the line has been scraped down and every burner has cooled. ### Source Vulcan ChefsCombi combi ovens operating manual F49613 (08/2026) Vulcan ChefsCombi gas and electric combi ovens, half and full size, 6 and 10 levels (operating manual F49613). Each step comes from Vulcan's own guidance for E90 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit. 01 Check the product; it finished without generator steam, so texture may differ. 02 Make sure the water supply to the oven is on and the inlet hose is not kinked. 03 Run a descale if E10 has been showing recently. 04 Book a visit if E90 appears again. ### Still there? It usually turns into [dish machine repair](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/services/dish-machine-repair/). Book with the code and the model number. ### What not to do E90 is not an oven that cannot cook; the cycle was finished in another mode. It is also different from E91, which covers the steam generator during cleaning rather than cooking. ## What you may notice with it. The commercial appliance problems E90 tends to arrive with. Check the product; it finished without generator steam, so texture may differ. If it comes back, it needs a visit. ### Is food safe after a Vulcan ChefsCombi E90? The cook was finished, but check the core temperature with a thermometer, since the steam profile changed partway through. ### What usually causes E90 on a Vulcan combi? Water supply problems and scale in the generator are the common ones. A technician checks the fill, the level sensing and the heater. ### Can I keep using the ChefsCombi after E90? For dry convection cooks, generally yes. Steam-dependent items should move to other equipment until it has been checked. --- **[Read on the site: Vulcan E90: the ChefsCombi steam generator stopped during a cook](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/error-codes/vulcan-e90/)** **[Book a visit with CommercialApplianceRepair.center](https://commercialappliancerepair.center/schedule/)**
