What RESET light
actually means.

SteamChef boilerless steamers carry a high-limit lockout. If the unit gets hotter than it should, most often because the water reservoir ran low, the RESET light comes on, the buzzer sounds without stopping and the heaters or burner shut off until the unit is reset.

The controller has seen a temperature outside the band it was set for and is saying so: a box above its alarm point, a fryer vat or an oven cavity that tripped its high-limit, or a dish machine rinse that never came up to heat. Often the cause sits outside the unit, such as a door left open during a delivery, a coil packed with grease, a kitchen far hotter than the maker allows or a booster fed cold water. Checking the door, the coil and the air around the unit is fair; move the product if a cold box stays above 41°F, and book the visit.

Turn the steamer off with the ON/OFF lever and open the compartment door so it can cool; do not pour water in to cool it, which Cleveland warns causes damage.

Once cool, look at the water level probes in the reservoir and clean off any scale or food film as the daily cleaning section shows.

Reset as the manual describes: the gas 22CGT has a reset button under the unit, and the electric 22CET resets by powering down, waiting 15 minutes and restarting with water.

If the lockout comes back, book a visit so the water level controls and high limit can be tested.

What not to do

The RESET light is not the green power light and not the SureCook light, which only means the compartment is below cooking temperature. A steamer that simply will not fill or will not light gives no RESET light at all.

Can I clear RESET light myself?
Turn the steamer off with the ON/OFF lever and open the compartment door so it can cool; do not pour water in to cool it, which Cleveland warns causes damage. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does the Cleveland SteamChef keep locking out with the RESET light?
Dirty water level probes are the most common cause: the steamer thinks it has water when it does not, runs the reservoir low and overheats. Cleaning the probes daily prevents most repeats.
Where is the reset button on a gas SteamChef?
The 22CGT manual places it on the bottom of the unit, about 3 inches from the control side and 4 inches from the front. If it will not stay down, wait five more minutes and try again.
Can we cool a locked-out SteamChef faster with cold water?
No. Cleveland says adding water to cool it causes damage. Open the door and let it cool on its own.
