What LOW WATER light
actually means.

Cleveland's self-contained kettles make their own steam from water sealed inside the jacket. If that water drops too low, a safety control shuts off the elements or burners and lights the red lamp. On tilting kettles the light also comes on when the kettle is tilted, which is normal.

What to do when LOW WATER light shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Cleveland's own guidance for LOW WATER light on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

If the kettle is tilted, return it upright; the light should go out on its own.

02

If the light stays on with the kettle upright, stop cooking and turn the kettle off at its switch.

03

Do not open the jacket fittings to add water yourself: Cleveland asks for a qualified technician to fix the leak and add distilled water, so book a visit.

What not to do

The red light is not the green HEAT light, which cycles on and off during normal cooking. It is also different from a gauge needle in the VENT AIR zone, which means air in the jacket rather than lost water.

What you may
notice with it.

Questions
about LOW WATER light.

Can I clear LOW WATER light myself?
If the kettle is tilted, return it upright; the light should go out on its own. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does the red light come on when we tilt the Cleveland kettle?
Tilting moves the water in the jacket away from the heaters, so the safety sees low water. Cleveland says that is normal; the light should go out when the kettle is upright.
Can we top up the water in a Cleveland steam jacket?
Cleveland asks for a technician, because a jacket that lost water has a leak somewhere and refilling uses distilled water with a rust inhibitor. Adding tap water can damage the jacket.
How much water does a Cleveland kettle need when the light comes on?
The KEL manual gives a chart by size, from 1 gallon for a 25-gallon kettle to 2.8 gallons for a 100-gallon kettle. The technician adds it after the leak is fixed.

Still showing LOW WATER light?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
