What Hi
actually means.
Delfield sets the alarm to sound and flash 90 minutes after the cabinet reaches its alarm point, or after a power interruption if the temperature is outside the limits. On R290 reach-ins the high point is 50°F for a cooler and 20°F for a low-temperature cabinet. By the time Hi shows, food near the door has likely been warm for a while.

What to do when Hi shows on the commercial applianceKind of codeTemperature and alarms
The controller has seen a temperature outside the band it was set for and is saying so: a box above its alarm point, a fryer vat or an oven cavity that tripped its high-limit, or a dish machine rinse that never came up to heat. Often the cause sits outside the unit, such as a door left open during a delivery, a coil packed with grease, a kitchen far hotter than the maker allows or a booster fed cold water. Checking the door, the coil and the air around the unit is fair; move the product if a cold box stays above 41°F, and book the visit.

A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone.

For a Delfield station that runs warm by late lunch, we time the visit to a slow hour so the pans can come out and the rail can be tested empty.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from Delfield's own guidance for Hi on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Probe the food straight away and log the reading and the time.
Move anything above 41°F to a unit that is holding and follow your health code on discard.
Shut doors and drawers, and on a prep table close the rail cover and fill empty pan spaces.
If the cabinet does not pull back down, book a visit.

What not to do
Hi does not say why the cabinet warmed; a door, a hot kitchen or the cooling system can all be the cause. It is also not LEA, which reports a compressor that has been running for a day straight.

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
