What CLEAN WAIT
actually means.

On electronic HCTE13 contact toasters, pressing CLEAN turns the elements off while the belt keeps running. The screen flashes CLEAN and WAIT until the platen has cooled to a safe temperature, then changes to CLEAN and READY.

What to do when CLEAN WAIT shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Star's own guidance for CLEAN WAIT on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Leave the toaster in clean mode and wait for CLEAN READY before wiping the belt.

02

Star says the platen can be unlocked and propped open to speed the cool-down; remove any butter first.

03

If CLEAN WAIT never changes to READY, book a visit, as the platen temperature sensing may need checking.

Cleared?

The code is gone from the controller, the box pulls down to its set point and holds it, the vat or the cavity reaches temperature and recovers on schedule, the rinse hits its heat and the drum finishes its spin, all without a new part. If the same code comes back within a week, or during the next busy shift, mention it when you book.

What not to do

CLEAN WAIT is a safety pause in clean mode, not an alarm. Pressing ON/OFF leaves clean mode, but it does not make the platen cool any faster.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Nothing on the unit has broken; the controller is reporting a state it chose or one somebody set. A defrost pauses cooling for a scheduled melt and shows a warmer air reading for a while, a combi asks for a delime or runs its clean cycle and locks the door until it ends, a dish machine or a laundry machine sits in energy save between busy periods, and a door-open reminder beeps after a long delivery. No part is needed: letting the cycle finish, or the key sequence in the manual, brings the unit back.

In Star's own words

The screen will flash CLEAN and WAIT.

Questions
about CLEAN WAIT.

Can I clear CLEAN WAIT myself?
Leave the toaster in clean mode and wait for CLEAN READY before wiping the belt.
How long does CLEAN WAIT last on a Star contact toaster?
It lasts until the platen has cooled to a safe temperature. Propping the platen open, as Star describes, shortens the wait.
Why does the belt keep moving in clean mode?
Star turns the elements off but keeps the belt running, which helps it cool evenly and lets you wipe it once READY shows.
Is it safe to clean during CLEAN WAIT?
No. Wait for CLEAN READY; the platen is still hot enough to burn while WAIT is showing.

Still showing CLEAN WAIT?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
