What COOL DOWN
actually means.

When a QCS conveyor toaster is turned off, the fan and conveyor motors keep running for five minutes to carry heat out of the unit. The display alternates COOL and DOWN during that time and then shows OFF.

What to do when COOL DOWN shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Star's own guidance for COOL DOWN on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Leave the toaster plugged in and let the five-minute cool-down finish.

02

Keep hands and cleaning cloths off the conveyor while it is still moving.

03

If COOL DOWN never ends, or the fan stops early and the housing gets very hot, book a visit.

Cleared?

The code is gone from the controller, the box pulls down to its set point and holds it, the vat or the cavity reaches temperature and recovers on schedule, the rinse hits its heat and the drum finishes its spin, all without a new part. If the same code comes back within a week, or during the next busy shift, mention it when you book.

What not to do

COOL DOWN is normal shutdown behavior, not a sign the toaster failed to turn off. Unplugging it early skips the cool-down, which is harder on the motors and elements.

notice with it.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Nothing on the unit has broken; the controller is reporting a state it chose or one somebody set. A defrost pauses cooling for a scheduled melt and shows a warmer air reading for a while, a combi asks for a delime or runs its clean cycle and locks the door until it ends, a dish machine or a laundry machine sits in energy save between busy periods, and a door-open reminder beeps after a long delivery. No part is needed: letting the cycle finish, or the key sequence in the manual, brings the unit back.

In Star's own words

The words COOL and DOWN will be alternately displayed during that time.

Questions
about COOL DOWN.

Can I clear COOL DOWN myself?
Leave the toaster plugged in and let the five-minute cool-down finish.
Why does my Star toaster keep running after I press off?
It is cooling itself. The fan and conveyor run for five minutes with COOL and DOWN on the display, then the unit shows OFF.
Can we unplug the Star conveyor toaster during COOL DOWN?
It is better not to. The cool-down moves heat out of the toaster so the motors and controls are not sitting in it.
When is it safe to clean a Star conveyor toaster?
Wait until the display shows OFF and the toaster has cooled to the touch before wiping it down.

Back to your everyday

Still showing COOL DOWN?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
