What LO
actually means.

The low alarm works like the high one, in the other direction. The manual's alarm section describes the flashing letters as AL for a low alarm, alternating with the cabinet temperature. On a Continental warmer, a low alarm means the cabinet is not hot enough to hold food safely.

What to do when LO shows on the commercial appliance

Kind of codeTemperature and alarms

The controller has seen a temperature outside the band it was set for and is saying so: a box above its alarm point, a fryer vat or an oven cavity that tripped its high-limit, or a dish machine rinse that never came up to heat. Often the cause sits outside the unit, such as a door left open during a delivery, a coil packed with grease, a kitchen far hotter than the maker allows or a booster fed cold water. Checking the door, the coil and the air around the unit is fair; move the product if a cold box stays above 41°F, and book the visit.

A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone.

MakeContinental Refrigerator

Continental Refrigerator units in a busy kitchen get looked at with the doors shut for a while first, so the tech sees how the box recovers on its own.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Continental Refrigerator's own guidance for LO on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Silence the beeper with SET/MUTE and check the food temperature.

02

Check the set point and whether a load of frozen product went in recently.

03

On a warmer, check that the door is shut and the food is above the temperature your health code requires for hot holding.

04

If LO returns with a normal set point, book a visit.

Still there?

It usually turns into reach-in and prep table repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

LO on a cooler is a cold problem, not a warm one. On a warmer it is the important alarm, since hot food that cools down is a food safety issue.

Questions
about LO.

Can I clear LO myself?
Silence the beeper with SET/MUTE and check the food temperature. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
What does LO mean on a Continental warmer?
The cabinet is cooler than its low alarm setting, so hot food may be dropping below safe holding temperature. Check it with a thermometer right away.
Why does my Continental show AL instead of LO?
The manual uses both: LO in its error table and AL in the alarm section. Both mean the low temperature alarm.
Can I change the low alarm point on my Continental?
The manual lists AL and AH as settings in the user menu. Change them only if you know the limits your health inspector expects.

Still showing LO?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
