A row of three stainless steel reach-in cabinets with solid doors along the wall of a working restaurant kitchen, the reach-ins clearly the subject, one door open showing sheet pans of prepped vegetables on wire shelves, a walk-in cooler door with a clear strip curtain visible at the far end, a cook seen only from behind in a white jacket passing in the soft background, bright even kitchen light.

Continental Restaurant Equipment Repair

Continental Refrigerator units in a busy kitchen get looked at with the doors shut for a while first, so the tech sees how the box recovers on its own.

Continental Refrigerator commercial appliances,
specifically.

Continental Refrigerator, established in 1989 and assembling its units in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, builds reach-ins, pass-thrus, roll-ins, sandwich and pizza prep units, worktops, undercounters, griddle stands, fish files, bar and keg coolers, and heated warmers. Its easy electronic control runs coolers, low-temperature cabinets and warmers alike, so one short list of codes covers most of the line.

The Continental Refrigerator lineup

What is particular
to Continental Refrigerator.

We work on Continental Designer Line and Base Model reach-ins, pass-thrus, roll-ins and roll-thrus, sandwich and pizza prep units, worktops, undercounters, griddle stands, fish files, milk, bottle, keg and back bar coolers, and warmers. Some units carry an EVCO control and some prep units a Sollatek dial control in place of the easy control.

Color-coded probes

The easy control reads up to three probes with colored leads: black in the return air, red in the evaporator coil, white by the condensing unit. The codes E0, E1 and E2 follow the same order, which makes the first check on a probe error quick.

An hour before the alarm

Continental's high and low alarms wait until the cabinet has been past its alarm point for 60 minutes. When a Continental alarms, it has been out of range for a while, so the food is checked before anything else.

A test record in the packet

Every Continental unit runs at least 12 hours of factory tests, and a temperature recording goes into each cabinet's manual packet. If you still have it, that sheet is a useful baseline when a unit later drifts.

Warmers on the same control

Continental's warmers share the easy control with its cold units, so on a warmer the low alarm is the one that matters: held food is cooling. We treat that as a food safety call, just like a warm cooler.

Parts

Continental takes parts and service requests through its own website and publishes the control manuals there. Replacement probes are matched by lead color and checked against the resistance chart in the easy control manual.

Repair or replace

A Continental with a sound cabinet is a good repair candidate when a probe, control, fan motor or door part fails. A compressor failure on an older unit is the point where we set the repair beside a new cabinet and let you decide.

Questions about
Continental Refrigerator commercial appliances.

What do the colored probe wires on a Continental mean?
Black is the regulation probe in the return air, red sits in the evaporator coil, and white is the ambient probe by the condensing unit. Errors E0, E1 and E2 match them in that order.
How do I silence the alarm on a Continental?
Press and release SET/MUTE once. The manual also shows how to turn the beeper off for future alarms, which we advise against in a busy kitchen.
How do I start a manual defrost on a Continental?
Press the up and down buttons together; the defrost icon lights after a few seconds. The defrost ends on its own on temperature or time.
Does Continental test its units before shipping?
Yes. Continental runs each unit for at least 12 hours of tests and includes a temperature recording in the manual packet.
