What E dL1
actually means.

E dL1 is the non-fatal door lock message. The control gives the lock twenty seconds after it enables the drive; when no locked signal arrives, all outputs switch off and E dL1 stays until the door is either opened or finally locks.

What to do when E dL1 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Speed Queen's own guidance for E dL1 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Open the door and close it firmly; a strap, sleeve or towel caught in the opening is the usual reason.

02

Press start again and listen for the lock to click.

03

If E dL1 comes back with nothing in the way, book a visit to test the lock and its wiring.

What not to do

E dL1 is not a fatal code and clears once the door either opens or locks. Its unlock twin is E dL2, where the door will not release after the drum stops.

Questions
about E dL1.

Can I clear E dL1 myself?
Open the door and close it firmly; a strap, sleeve or towel caught in the opening is the usual reason. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does a Speed Queen show E dL1 only on large loads?
An overfilled drum pushes fabric into the door opening, and the door cannot close far enough to lock.
How is E dL1 different from E dL on a Speed Queen?
E dL1 means the lock did not engage at the start and clears by itself; E dL means it let go during the cycle and needs a power cycle.
Will a Speed Queen start by itself after E dL1?
Once the door locks the control can continue; if it does not, open and close the door and press start again.

Still showing E dL1?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
