What the commercial controls and board repair
involves.

Almost every piece of commercial equipment made in the last twenty years runs on a controller, and when something goes wrong the display is where the manager looks first. That makes boards look guilty more often than they are. A code on a combi, a fryer computer that shows an error, a reach-in controller with an alarm, a dish machine that stops mid-cycle or a laundry machine that will not start all point at a chain of parts, and the board is only one link: the probes and sensors that feed it, the switches and interlocks that give it permission, the relays and contactors it drives, the power supply behind it and the wiring between them. The technician reads the code and the history, then measures inputs and outputs to show where the chain breaks. A probe that reads wrong, a door switch that no longer closes, a contactor with burned points or a loose connector in a hot compartment is replaced, and the board stays. When the board really has failed, the finding says why, heat, water, a surge or age, so the new one is not lost the same way. Settings such as setpoints, cycle times or payment values are recorded before any board is changed and restored after.

How the visit goes

Commercial controls and board repair,
step by step.

Restore the settings, run the equipment through a full cycle and note what caused the part to fail.

01

Read the code, the alarm and the controller history, and hear what the equipment did just before it stopped.

02

Measure the probes and sensors that feed the controller against a reference, and test switches and interlocks.

03

Check the outputs the board drives, relays, contactors, valves and motors, and the power supply and connectors.

04

Record setpoints, cycle times and payment values, then replace only the part the measurements condemn.

05

Restore the settings, run the equipment through a full cycle and note what caused the part to fail.

Before you call

Tell us this when you book

  1. The exact code, alarm or message on the display, and whether it clears on its own or comes back
  2. What the equipment was doing when it appeared: defrost, preheat, filtering, a wash cycle or an extract
  3. Whether there was a power outage, a storm, a water leak or a cleaning near the controls beforehand
  4. The make, model and serial, and any settings your staff changed recently

Moderate,
on the site's scale.

A probe, a door switch or a contactor is modest. A relay board or a power supply is in the middle, and a main controller or a touch panel, set back up with your setpoints and cycle values, is the dearest part here.

All service areas

Tampa BayFL · 31 areas

Tampa Bay sees some of the most lightning in the country, and surges travel through kitchen and laundry circuits into control boards, so a board repair there looks for surge damage and loose connections and asks whether the unit needs surge protection.

OrlandoFL · 30 areas

Orlando's daily summer thunderstorms bring power flickers that scramble fryer computers, combi controls and laundry boards, and a repair there restores settings, tests the board and looks at how the equipment is wired and protected.

Miami / South FloridaFL · 47 areas

South Florida humidity and salt air corrode control boards and their connectors, and a control that behaves erratically is often cleaned, dried and reseated before a board is replaced, with the enclosure seals checked too.

New York MetroNY · 75 areas

Aging electrical service in older New York buildings can leave voltage sagging or circuits unbalanced, which confuses the modern controls on combis, dish machines and laundry equipment, so the technician measures the supply before replacing any board.

HoustonTX · 36 areas

Houston storms bring long outages and power spikes when the grid comes back, and control boards in walk-ins, fryers and dish machines are often damaged in that moment, so repairs there check the voltage and the unit's restart settings.

ChicagoIL · 50 areas

In Chicagoland, controls on rooftop condensing units face snow, ice and condensation, and indoor boards meet static and dry air all winter, so a board repair there also checks sensor wiring and connectors for moisture damage.

Los AngelesCA · 95 areas

Los Angeles kitchens with connected equipment rely on touch panels and networked boards, and heat, grease and cleaning chemicals wear them down, so the fix there is often a new touch panel, with its wiring rerouted away from the heat.

San DiegoCA · 31 areas

San Diego coastal kitchens and laundries see salt corrosion on control connectors, and an intermittent error there often traces back to a corroded plug or sensor lead, cleaned or replaced before an expensive board is condemned.

San Francisco Bay AreaCA · 74 areas

Bay Area businesses often tie their equipment into energy management and monitoring systems, and a board repair there checks the communication module, the sensors and the settings so the kitchen's logs stay accurate after the fix.

Questions about
the commercial controls and board repair.

Does a code on the display mean the control board has failed?
Rarely on its own. Most codes report what the board sees, a probe out of range, a door open, a fill that took too long, so the fix is usually the part the code points at. The board is replaced only when it is shown to be the broken link.
Can staff reset the controller to clear a code?
A single reset by the maker's steps is reasonable, and it is worth writing down the code first. If the same code comes back, stop resetting it and book a visit, because repeated resets can hide a temperature or a safety problem.
Why did two boards fail in the same kitchen within a year?
Heat, grease and water are the usual reasons: a controller mounted beside a flue, a hood that no longer pulls, a spray hose aimed at the panel, or surges on a shared circuit. The finding names the cause so the next board lasts.
