What E1
actually means.

A Flav-R-Savor cabinet holds cooked food by balancing warm, slowly moving air with humidity, and it reads the air through one sensor. When that sensor stops giving a usable reading, the cabinet temperature display shows E1. Without it the cabinet cannot tell whether held food is warm enough, so the manual sends E1 straight to service.

What to do when E1 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Hatco's own guidance for E1 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check held food with a probe thermometer right away and move anything below your hot-holding minimum to another warm unit.

02

Switch the cabinet off and on once; if E1 clears, keep checking food temperatures through the shift.

03

A returning E1 retires the cabinet for now; book a visit for the air sensor and its wiring.

What not to do

E1 does not mean the heaters have failed; the cabinet may still be warm while it is blind. Its partner code E2 covers the humidity side instead of the air.

What you may
notice with it.

The commercial appliance problem E1 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the commercial appliance before anyone is booked.

Questions
about E1.

Can I clear E1 myself?
Check held food with a probe thermometer right away and move anything below your hot-holding minimum to another warm unit. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I keep holding food in a Hatco cabinet that shows E1?
Only while you check it with a thermometer, because the cabinet cannot measure its own air. Health codes expect hot-held food to stay above the safe limit, and E1 removes the cabinet's proof of that.
Does E1 on a Hatco holding cabinet mean the heater is broken?
No. E1 names the air temperature sensor. The heater may still run, just without accurate control.
Is E1 the same on every Hatco cabinet?
The FSHC-5W and FSHC-7W manual is where Hatco defines it. Other cabinet families may show different codes, so match the code to the manual for your own model.

Still showing E1?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
