What E21
actually means.

Garland's electronics carry their own temperature sensors. When one reports an error, or the board is overheated because the room is too hot, the unit switches off and shows E21, or eight short flashes after each long one. E24, E25 and E26 share this row.

What to do when E21 shows on the commercial appliance

Kind of codeSensors and probes

A probe is handing the controller a reading it cannot trust, or none at all: a box or coil sensor torn loose from its clip, a fryer probe coated in carbon from oil left too long between filterings, a combi core probe with a kinked cable, or a connector gone green from steam and cleaning chemicals. The unit then runs on, stops, or shuts the heat or the cooling off to protect itself. Letting it cool and restarting it as the manual describes is fair; a probe that still reads wrong sits behind a panel, and that is a visit.

A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone.

Garland equipment on a cooking line is usually looked at after close, when every burner is cold and the grates can come up without rushing a cook.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Garland's own guidance for E21 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch off and let the unit cool.

02

Clear the vents and clean the air filter.

03

Reduce the air temperature around the unit if you can.

04

Book a visit if E21 appears in normal room conditions, since a board sensor may need replacement.

What not to do

E21 is not about the cook zone or the pan; that is E04. It concerns the electronics, and it often clears once the air around the unit is cooler.

Questions
about E21.

Can I clear E21 myself?
Switch off and let the unit cool. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is E21 on a Garland a failed part?
Sometimes. If the unit shows E21 in a cool room with clean filters, a sensor on the board is the likely cause.
Why do E21 and E06 appear together on my Garland?
Both point to heat around the electronics. A hot room or blocked intake can trigger either.
Will E21 clear on its own?
Often after the unit cools. If it returns right after a restart, book a visit.

Still showing E21?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
