What E13
actually means.

The FQ4000 compares the oil probe signal against the band a working probe can produce. When the reading falls outside it, the controller logs E13 and shows TEMPERATURE PROBE FAILURE, because it can no longer regulate the heat in that vat. Frymaster lists the probe, its wiring harness or connector, and the controller itself as the possible causes.

What to do when E13 shows on the commercial appliance

Kind of codeSensors and probes

A probe is handing the controller a reading it cannot trust, or none at all: a box or coil sensor torn loose from its clip, a fryer probe coated in carbon from oil left too long between filterings, a combi core probe with a kinked cable, or a connector gone green from steam and cleaning chemicals. The unit then runs on, stops, or shuts the heat or the cooling off to protect itself. Letting it cool and restarting it as the manual describes is fair; a probe that still reads wrong sits behind a panel, and that is a visit.

Controllers, touch panels, relays, contactors and interlocks tested, and replaced only when the evidence says so.

Shows up asCommercial Appliance Error Code on a Combi, Fryer, Dish Machine or Laundry Display

A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone.

MakeFrymaster

A Frymaster fryer is serviced cold: the visit waits until the oil has come down and the vat has been drained by the crew.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Frymaster's own guidance for E13 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn the vat off from the controller and let the oil stand; do not try to fry on that side by watching a thermometer.

02

Note which vat shows the message and whether the other side of a split pot still reads normally, so the technician starts on the right circuit.

03

Leave the probe alone and keep hands out of the hot frypot; a technician needs to measure the probe, its harness and the controller.

What not to do

E13 is not the high-limit story: a hot vat with E16 or E17 means the oil actually got too hot, while E13 means the controller has lost its view of the oil. It is also not a low-oil warning; a fryer short of oil logs E81 instead.

Questions
about E13.

Can I clear E13 myself?
Turn the vat off from the controller and let the oil stand; do not try to fry on that side by watching a thermometer. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I keep frying on a Frymaster that shows E13?
No. Without a trusted probe reading the FQ4000 cannot hold the oil at the recipe temperature, so food quality and safety both suffer. Shut that vat down and run product on another fryer until the circuit is tested.
Is E13 on a Frymaster always a bad probe?
Not always. Frymaster names the probe, the harness and connector between probe and controller, and the controller as causes, so each one is measured before a part is ordered.
Why does only one side of my split-pot Frymaster show E13?
Each half of a split pot has its own probe and wiring. The error log records the side, so a message on one half points at that side's circuit while the other half can keep working.

Still showing E13?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
