The open door of a cold stainless combi oven in a commercial kitchen, its empty racks in view and a thin core temperature probe hanging on its holder inside the cavity, nobody at the combi oven.

What Service 20.1
actually means.

The iCombi Pro reads the cooking cabinet temperature through a probe on the hot air side. Service 20.1 reports that probe as defective. Without a trusted reading the oven stops cooking, which Rational shows as no cooking possible.

What to do when Service 20.1 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Rational's own guidance for Service 20.1 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Move the current load to another oven or hold it safely; this unit will not finish it.

02

Restart the oven a single time and watch if the number reappears at once.

03

Write down the serial number and software version from the message and book a visit.

It usually turns into commercial controls and board repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

Service 20.1 is not the core temperature probe that goes into the food; that probe reports as Service 31.1 or 31.2. It also differs from 20.2 and 20.4, which belong to humidity measurement and still allow cooking.

What you may
notice with it.

The commercial appliance problems Service 20.1 tends to arrive with. Answer these at the commercial appliance before anyone is booked.

Questions
about Service 20.1.

Can I clear Service 20.1 myself?
Move the current load to another oven or hold it safely; this unit will not finish it. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I cook on a Rational oven showing Service 20.1?
No. Rational marks this message as one where cooking is not possible, because the oven cannot read its own cabinet heat.
Is Service 20.1 the probe I stick into the meat?
No. The food probe has its own numbers, Service 31.1 and 31.2. Service 20.1 is the fixed probe that measures the cabinet air for hot air heating.
How is Service 20.1 on a Rational combi usually repaired?
A technician tests the probe and its wiring and replaces the part that has failed. The probe is matched to the serial number of your unit, so have that number ready when you book.

Back to your everyday

Still showing Service 20.1?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
