What Service 28.2
actually means.

The iCombi Pro watches the cooking cabinet against a safety limit. Service 28.2 reports that the limit was passed, which points at the heating or its control rather than the recipe. Rational lists cooking as not possible.

What to do when Service 28.2 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Rational's own guidance for Service 28.2 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Keep the cabinet shut while it cools by itself, and never spray water into it while hot.

02

Take the food out once it is safe to open and finish it elsewhere.

03

Book a visit and mention what the oven was doing when the message came up, such as grilling or a long hot air stage.

Still there?

It usually turns into reach-in and prep table repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

Service 28.2 is not the steam generator limit, which Rational numbers 28.1, and not 28.4, which still leaves hot air mode available. It is also different from Service 29, where the electronics board rather than the cabinet runs hot.

Where Service 28.2 usually leads

Reach-in and prep table repair.

Reach-in, pass-through or prep table gasket, hinge, fan motor, thermostat or controller, defrost heater, leak repair or compressor · moderate.

Questions
about Service 28.2.

Can I clear Service 28.2 myself?
Keep the cabinet shut while it cools by itself, and never spray water into it while hot. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is it dangerous when a Rational shows Service 28.2?
The oven has already protected itself by stopping, which is the purpose of the limit. Should smoke or a burning odor appear, switch the unit off and leave the cabinet closed as it cools.
Can I reset Service 28.2 on my Rational and keep cooking?
The manual lists no owner reset and marks cooking as not possible. The heating control has to be checked before the oven goes back into service.
What is the difference between Service 28.1 and 28.2 on a Rational?
28.1 is the limit on the steam generator and 28.2 is the limit on the cooking cabinet. Both stop cooking, and both need a technician.

Still showing Service 28.2?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
