What DEF ERR
actually means.

Upright Traulsen cabinets defrost on a schedule, every 8 hours for coolers and every 4 hours for low-temperature units, according to the owner's guide. DEF ERR says a cycle did not finish. If it keeps happening, ice builds on the coil and the cabinet starts to warm.

What to do when DEF ERR shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

01

Note the time DEF ERR appeared and keep checking food temperatures.

02

03

Book a visit; Traulsen marks DEF ERR as needing service.

Still there?

It usually turns into walk-in cooler repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

DEF ERR is not the normal defrost indication; units with an LED display simply show that a defrost is running. It is also not the coil sensor message SN2, though a bad coil sensor can lead to it.

Where DEF ERR usually leads

Walk-in cooler repair.

Walk-in evaporator fan, defrost heater or drain line heater, door gasket, frame heater, expansion valve, leak repair, compressor or condensing unit · moderate to highest.

Still showing DEF ERR?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
