What CLO
actually means.

CLO is the cold counterpart of CHI on R & A Series controls. Traulsen's first suggestion for a cabinet that is too cold is a large load of very cold or frozen food, which pulls the air down until the cabinet recovers. If that is not the case, the set point may be too low.

What to do when CLO shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Traulsen's own guidance for CLO on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Ask whether frozen product was loaded recently and give the cabinet time to recover.

02

Check the set point on the control against the temperature your menu needs.

03

Move items that are freezing to a shelf away from the air outlet.

04

If CLO comes back with a normal load and set point, book a visit.

Still there?

It usually turns into reach-in and prep table repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

CLO does not point at a failing compressor. A control that cannot switch the compressor off, or a probe reading wrong, can both cause it, and both need a meter.

Where CLO usually leads

Reach-in and prep table repair.

Reach-in, pass-through or prep table gasket, hinge, fan motor, thermostat or controller, defrost heater, leak repair or compressor · moderate.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Shown by the control on R & A Series cabinets, as listed in Traulsen's quick reference guide TR35924 (rev. C, 2015). Units built after July 2025 carry the Smart Control, which keeps alarms in a menu instead (see PFA).

Questions
about CLO.

Can I clear CLO myself?
Ask whether frozen product was loaded recently and give the cabinet time to recover. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why is my Traulsen cooler freezing produce and showing CLO?
The set point may be too low or the control may not be ending the cooling cycle. Check the set point first; if it looks right, book a visit.
Will CLO go away on its own on a Traulsen?
After a load of frozen product, yes. It clears when the air is back above the low alarm limit.
Can I adjust the Traulsen set point myself?
Traulsen describes a customer access code for the control's settings in its guide. If you are unsure, leave it for the technician so other settings are not changed by mistake.

Back to your everyday

Still showing CLO?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
