The open door of a cold stainless combi oven in a commercial kitchen, its empty racks in view and a thin core temperature probe hanging on its holder inside the cavity, nobody at the combi oven.

What SN1
actually means.

The cabinet sensor is what the R & A Series control uses to decide when to cool. When it fails, the control can no longer read the box properly, and Traulsen marks SN1 as a message that needs service.

What to do when SN1 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Traulsen's own guidance for SN1 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check the food with a separate thermometer and log the reading.

02

Move food that must stay at 41°F or below if the cabinet is warming.

03

Book a visit; Traulsen marks SN1 as needing service.

Still there?

It usually turns into commercial controls and board repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

SN1 is not the coil sensor (SN2) or the liquid line sensor (SN3). The cabinet may still run for a while, but the display and the alarms can no longer be trusted.

Where SN1 usually leads

Commercial controls and board repair.

Controller, touch panel, probe or sensor, relay, contactor, power supply, door switch or interlock, tested before anything is changed · moderate.

Every code on this site is taken from the manufacturer's documentation, never from a forum or a parts listing. Shown by the control on R & A Series cabinets, as listed in Traulsen's quick reference guide TR35924 (rev. C, 2015). Units built after July 2025 carry the Smart Control, which keeps alarms in a menu instead (see PFA).

Questions
about SN1.

Can I clear SN1 myself?
Check the food with a separate thermometer and log the reading. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can a Traulsen keep cooling with SN1 on the display?
It may run in a fallback mode, but you cannot rely on it. Check the food with your own thermometer until the sensor is replaced.
Is SN1 on a Traulsen a big repair?
Usually not: a sensor is a smaller job than a control or a compressor. The control is checked too before a part is ordered.
What is the difference between SN1, SN2 and SN3 on a Traulsen?
Each is a different sensor: SN1 reads the cabinet air, SN2 the coil and SN3 the liquid line.

Still showing SN1?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
