What is particular

We work on Traulsen R-Series and G-Series reach-ins, TS and TB prep tables, compact UPT and UST prep tables, TU and compact undercounters, TE equipment stands, milk coolers, blast chillers and hot food holding cabinets. The series name on the serial tag tells us which control and which messages to expect.

Alerts spelled out in words

Older R and A Series controls print short word-like messages: ELE LOS after a power loss, DOR OPN for a door, CHI and CLO for warm and cold, CLN FIL when the condenser needs cleaning. Traulsen marks its sensor, defrost and run-time messages as ones that need service.

A power-loss record on newer cabinets

Uprights built after July 2025 carry Traulsen's Smart Control, which stores how long the power was off and the cabinet temperature when it returned. After an outage, those two numbers answer the question a health inspector asks first.

Defrost on demand

Newer Traulsen low-temperature cabinets use Predictive Defrost, watching air temperature and humidity and defrosting only when needed. A frosted coil on one of these sends us to sensors and heaters rather than a timer.

A wide-fin coil and propane

Most R-Series models have a StayClear wide-finned condenser coil that still wants cleaning about every six months, and many Traulsen products run on propane. Sealed-system work on those follows flammable-refrigerant precautions.

Parts

Traulsen publishes service and parts manuals and a parts finder on its own site, and asks that system components be replaced with like parts, especially on propane units. Sensors and controls are matched to the series and build date before ordering.

Repair or replace

A Traulsen with a sound cabinet, hinges and gaskets is worth repairing when a sensor, fan, door switch, heater or control fails. Replacement enters the conversation only when a compressor or sealed-system failure lands on an older cabinet with a tired box.

What does ELE LOS mean on my Traulsen?
The power to the cabinet was interrupted. Clear it with the alarm key, then check the food and your log to see how long the cabinet was warm.
How often does a Traulsen defrost?
Traulsen's owner guide gives every 8 hours for upright coolers, every 4 hours for upright low-temperature cabinets, every 2.5 hours for TE and TU units and every 3 hours for TS units. Newer R-Series low-temperature cabinets defrost on demand instead.
Where is the power outage record on a newer Traulsen?
On Smart Control cabinets, unlock the keypad, open the alarm menu and read tPd for how long the power was off and tCu for the temperature when it came back.
Do Traulsen hot food cabinets start on their own?
No. Traulsen ships its hot food holding cabinets switched off; press the on/off button and set the temperature to begin.
