What FILTER?
actually means.

On non-auto-filter SSHLV fryers, pulling the blue drain handle with the fryer on and the oil above filter temperature starts filter prompting, and the control shows FILTER?. Pressing YES lets the operator run the pump and follow the filter timer. It is part of normal daily filtering, not a warning.

What to do when FILTER? shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Pitco's own guidance for FILTER? on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Confirm that the filter pan is in place and empty and put on the protective gear your kitchen uses.

02

Press YES, run the pump with the tank fill key and wait for the filter timer to end.

03

Push the blue handle back in, let the pump refill the tank and stop it when bubbles show; filter only one tank at a time so the pan does not overflow.

Cleared?

The code is gone from the controller, the box pulls down to its set point and holds it, the vat or the cavity reaches temperature and recovers on schedule, the rinse hits its heat and the drum finishes its spin, all without a new part. If the same code comes back within a week, or during the next busy shift, mention it when you book.

What not to do

The prompt does not mean the filter is clogged or broken; it appears because someone opened the drain to filter. If the tank then refills slowly or not at all, work through the filter troubleshooting chart instead.

What you may
notice with it.

The commercial appliance problem FILTER? tends to arrive with. Answer these at the commercial appliance before anyone is booked.

All problems

No repair indicated

Nothing to repair.

Nothing on the unit has broken; the controller is reporting a state it chose or one somebody set. A defrost pauses cooling for a scheduled melt and shows a warmer air reading for a while, a combi asks for a delime or runs its clean cycle and locks the door until it ends, a dish machine or a laundry machine sits in energy save between busy periods, and a door-open reminder beeps after a long delivery. No part is needed: letting the cycle finish, or the key sequence in the manual, brings the unit back.

Questions
about FILTER?.

Can I clear FILTER? myself?
Confirm that the filter pan is in place and empty and put on the protective gear your kitchen uses.
Why does FILTER? appear when I open the drain on my Pitco?
On manual-filter models, pulling the blue handle with the fryer on is how filtering begins. The control asks to confirm before the pump runs.
Can I filter two Pitco tanks at once?
Pitco says to filter only one tank at a time, because two tanks into one pan can overflow it.
Why must the oil be hot before FILTER? appears on a Pitco?
The manual starts filtering with oil above filter temperature, since warm oil flows through the paper and pump far more easily.

Back to your everyday

Still showing FILTER??

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
