What HEAT FAIL
actually means.

On Solstice and Solstice Supreme gas fryers the controller calls for heat and then waits for a 24-volt feedback signal that proves the gas valve is being powered. If that feedback is missing for roughly a minute and a half, the display shows HEAT FAIL; the digital solid-state control spells it HEAt FAIL. Pitco's service manual points first at a tripped high limit or roll-out switch, then at the ignition module and the heat demand relay.

What to do when HEAT FAIL shows on the commercial appliance

Kind of codeIgnition and gas

The unit tried to light and never proved a flame, or lit and then lost it. On a fryer, a griddle, a combi or a gas tumbler the ordinary reasons come first: the gas valve at the unit left partly closed after cleaning, a quick-disconnect hose not fully seated, an igniter crusted with grease or lint, a flame sensor or thermopile that no longer reads the heat, or a draft from a hood or a door pulling the pilot away. Checking the valve and running the reset the manual names are fair; if you smell gas, get everyone out first, and the gas valve, the sensor and every fitting stay with a technician.

A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone.

MakePitco

A Pitco visit begins only once the vat is cool enough to drain, since nobody on the crew should be reaching near hot oil.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Pitco's own guidance for HEAT FAIL on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn the fryer off and let it cool completely; the high limit and roll-out resets sit close to the burners.

02

Once it is cool, add oil to the proper level if it is low and, as Pitco's quick guide shows, press the red high-limit reset button behind the gas valve inside the door, then turn the fryer back on.

03

If HEAT FAIL returns, or the roll-out switch at the top of the burners has tripped, stop using the fryer and book a visit; a roll-out trip points to flame or flue trouble a technician must find.

What not to do

HEAT FAIL is not a temperature probe message; an open or shorted probe shows PROBE OPEN or SYSTEM FAILURE on the same control. It also does not mean gas is leaking, only that the heat circuit did not prove itself.

Questions
about HEAT FAIL.

Can I clear HEAT FAIL myself?
Turn the fryer off and let it cool completely; the high limit and roll-out resets sit close to the burners. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Where does a Pitco Solstice hide its high limit reset button?
Pitco's quick guide places the red reset button behind the gas valve, inside the fryer door. Wait until the fryer is cool before reaching in, because the button sits near the burners.
Why does my Pitco show HEAT FAIL right after I reset the high limit?
After a reset, Pitco says to turn the controller off and back on so the fryer can heat. If it still fails, the ignition module or the heat demand relay is the next suspect.
Is a Pitco HEAT FAIL the same as a pilot problem?
It can be. The pilot on these fryers should stay lit whenever the controller is on, and a pilot that is out or an ignition module that has locked out stops the heat feedback just like a tripped switch.

Still showing HEAT FAIL?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
