What IGNITION FAILURE
actually means.

Pitco's matchless ignition lights a pilot, and the ignition module opens the main valve once it senses that pilot. When the computer calls for heat and the heat feedback does not appear within about 90 seconds, some control versions report it in words as IGNITION FAILURE. A gas supply that is off, a pilot that will not hold, a module that has locked out or a tripped safety switch can all end the same way.

What to do when IGNITION FAILURE shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Pitco's own guidance for IGNITION FAILURE on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check that the gas supply to the fryer is on at the manual shutoff valve and that the flexible connector has not been pulled loose, without taking any fitting apart.

02

Switch the control off, pause briefly, then on again so the ignition sequence restarts from the beginning.

03

If you smell gas, turn the fryer off, avoid switches and flames, get people outside and phone the gas utility or 911 from there; with no gas smell but a repeat failure, book a visit.

What not to do

IGNITION FAILURE is a burner that did not prove flame, not a fryer that is overheating. It shares its cause list with HEAT FAIL, and Pitco's service manual treats the two messages as the same break in the heat circuit.

Questions
about IGNITION FAILURE.

Can I clear IGNITION FAILURE myself?
Check that the gas supply to the fryer is on at the manual shutoff valve and that the flexible connector has not been pulled loose, without taking any fitting apart. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does a Pitco need to be lit with a match after IGNITION FAILURE?
No. Solstice fryers use matchless ignition, so the pilot lights itself when the control is turned on. Holding a flame to the burner is not part of any Pitco procedure.
Why does my Pitco show IGNITION FAILURE after the fryer was moved?
A fryer that was pulled out for cleaning can end up with its gas connector not fully seated or its supply valve half closed. Check those first; a message that survives that check needs a visit.
Can a tripped high limit cause IGNITION FAILURE on a Pitco?
Yes. The high limit and roll-out switch both cut power to the ignition module, so the burner cannot light until the switch is reset.

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
