What 003
actually means.

Hot-water sanitizing LXn models heat the final rinse in a small booster tank. If the booster has not reached its setpoint by the end of the fill, the screen shows Booster temperature not reached during fill cycle with 003. It clears with ENTER, but the next racks may not see a sanitizing rinse.

What to do when 003 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Hobart's own guidance for 003 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press ENTER to clear the message and watch the rinse temperature on the next cycle.

02

Check that the incoming water is as warm as the model requires; LXnH models expect about 110°F at the supply.

03

Hold racks until the display shows a rinse of 180°F, or sanitize another way your health code accepts.

04

Book a visit if 003 returns, since the booster element, its contactor or its sensor needs testing.

Still there?

It usually turns into reach-in and prep table repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

003 is not the booster overheating; that is 001 or the overtemp code 086. It is also different from 004, which reports the same slow booster during the wash rather than the fill.

Where 003 usually leads

Reach-in and prep table repair.

Reach-in, pass-through or prep table gasket, hinge, fan motor, thermostat or controller, defrost heater, leak repair or compressor · moderate.

Questions
about 003.

Can I clear 003 myself?
Press ENTER to clear the message and watch the rinse temperature on the next cycle. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can I keep washing on a Hobart that shows 003?
You can clear it and run, but check the rinse temperature on each cycle. If the final rinse stays below 180°F on a hot-water sanitizing model, the dishes are not sanitized to the standard the inspector will ask about.
Why does my Hobart show 003 in the morning only?
The first fill starts from the coldest water of the day, so a weak booster falls behind then and catches up later. That pattern still points to a booster that needs testing.
Does cold incoming water cause 003 on a Hobart LXn?
It can. The LXnH booster adds about 70°F, so it relies on a warm supply; LXnR and LXGnR models are built for cold water with an energy recovery unit.

Still showing 003?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
