What IGNITION LOCKOUT
actually means.

When a Vulcan digital or computer fryer calls for heat and gets no flame, it sounds a continuous alarm after 90 seconds, disables the heat demand and shows IGNITION LOCKOUT. Computer models add CHECK GAS SUPPLY. The fryer has to be switched off and on again to reset the control.

What to do when IGNITION LOCKOUT shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Vulcan's own guidance for IGNITION LOCKOUT on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Check that the gas shutoff behind the fryer is open and the flexible hose is connected at its quick-disconnect.

02

Turn the fryer off, then back on, to reset the control, as Vulcan directs.

03

If other gas equipment on the line has also gone out, check with the building or the gas utility before relighting anything.

04

If you smell gas, turn the gas off, keep flames and switches away, get people out and call the gas utility or 911 from outside; otherwise book a visit if the lockout returns.

What not to do

IGNITION LOCKOUT is not a temperature problem with the shortening, and it does not mean the high limit has tripped. On QuickFry fryers with a standing pilot, PILOT OUT is a separate message for a pilot flame that has gone out.

Questions
about IGNITION LOCKOUT.

Can I clear IGNITION LOCKOUT myself?
Check that the gas shutoff behind the fryer is open and the flexible hose is connected at its quick-disconnect. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
How do I reset IGNITION LOCKOUT on a Vulcan fryer?
Turn the fryer off and back on; Vulcan says that re-initializes the control. Check the gas valve and hose first, or the lockout will simply return.
Why does my Vulcan fryer lock out after a gas line was worked on?
Air left in the line after gas work can keep the burners from lighting on the first attempts. If a restart does not clear it, have the gas side checked rather than cycling the power over and over.
Is IGNITION LOCKOUT on a Vulcan dangerous?
The lockout stops the fryer from trying to light, which is the safe response. The danger is a gas smell; if you notice one, leave the fryer off and treat it as a gas emergency.

Still showing IGNITION LOCKOUT?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
