What E28
actually means.

After airflow is proven, the ignition module tries to light the burner and watch for flame. If no flame is sensed, it locks out and the FQ4000 records E28. Gas turned off at the fryer or the building, a loose quick-disconnect, air in the line after service, or a failed ignition part are the usual starting points.

The unit tried to light and never proved a flame, or lit and then lost it. On a fryer, a griddle, a combi or a gas tumbler the ordinary reasons come first: the gas valve at the unit left partly closed after cleaning, a quick-disconnect hose not fully seated, an igniter crusted with grease or lint, a flame sensor or thermopile that no longer reads the heat, or a draft from a hood or a door pulling the pilot away. Checking the valve and running the reset the manual names are fair; if you smell gas, get everyone out first, and the gas valve, the sensor and every fitting stay with a technician.

Confirm the fryer's gas valve is on and that any manual shutoff valve in the supply line is open.

Turn the controller off and back on once to clear the lockout and give the burner another try.

If you smell gas, turn the fryer off, avoid switches and flames, get everyone out and phone the gas utility or 911 once outside; with no gas smell but a second lockout, book a visit.

Can I clear E28 myself?
Confirm the fryer's gas valve is on and that any manual shutoff valve in the supply line is open. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
How do I clear an ignition lockout on a Frymaster FilterQuick?
Switching the controller off and on resets the attempt. If the burner locks out again with gas confirmed on, the ignition parts need a technician.
Why does my Frymaster lock out after the gas line was moved?
Moving the fryer can leave the quick-disconnect half seated or let air into the line. Reseat the connector fully, then try again; persistent lockouts need a visit.
Should I relight a Frymaster FilterQuick by hand after E28?
No. These burners light through an ignition module, not a match, and reaching into the burner area is not safe. Book a visit instead.
