What E71
actually means.

The ChefsCombi keeps its electronics cool with air drawn through vents on the front left-hand side. When that area passes about 158°F, it shows E71 and lowers the maximum oven temperature to protect the controls. Vulcan asks for the vents to be cleaned, heat sources near the left side to be removed and the room ventilated.

What to do when E71 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Vulcan's own guidance for E71 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Clean the fresh air intake vents on the front left-hand side of the oven.

02

Move any fryer, broiler or hot holding unit away from the oven's left side.

03

Improve ventilation in the room if the kitchen is very hot.

04

Book a visit if E71 keeps returning with clear vents and space around the oven.

Still there?

It usually turns into commercial controls and board repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E71 is not a cavity temperature problem, and the oven keeps cooking at a lower maximum. It is also different from E4 on the older VC5 convection ovens, which reports a hot board on a different control.

Questions
about E71.

Can I clear E71 myself?
Clean the fresh air intake vents on the front left-hand side of the oven. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does my Vulcan ChefsCombi limit its temperature?
When E71 is active the oven lowers its top temperature to protect the electronics. Clearing the cause restores full heat.
Where are the intake vents on a ChefsCombi?
On the front, left-hand side of the appliance. Grease and flour dust build up there quickly in a busy kitchen.
Does E71 on a Vulcan combi mean the board is failing?
Not yet; it is a heat warning. Repeated overheating is what shortens the life of the electronics.

Still showing E71?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
