What E05
actually means.

The knob on a Garland induction unit turns a potentiometer that tells the generator how much power to send. When that part or the power switch reads wrong, the unit switches off and shows E05, or five short flashes after each long one. Garland's only action for it is a service call.

Kind of codeControls and power

The controller itself is reporting trouble, or the supply behind it is: a display with dead segments, a keypad that stopped responding after steam or degreaser got behind it, relays that stick, stored recipes or cycles that vanished overnight, a blown control fuse, or one leg of a three-phase feed missing so half the heat or the pump is gone. A full power cycle at the breaker, done as the manual describes, clears a passing glitch; a code that returns, a scorched smell or any sign of moisture behind the panel means the breaker stays off, and that is a visit.

Controllers, touch panels, relays, contactors and interlocks tested, and replaced only when the evidence says so.

A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Garland's own guidance for E05 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Turn the knob back to off and switch the unit off at its power switch.

02

Wipe spills away from the knob so no liquid runs into it.

03

Switch back on once to see if E05 returns.

04

Book a visit if it does, since the switch or potentiometer needs replacement.

What not to do

E05 is not a cookware or overheating code, so changing the pan or letting the unit cool will not clear it. A knob that feels loose or gritty is a strong hint that E05 will follow.

Questions
about E05.

Can I clear E05 myself?
Turn the knob back to off and switch the unit off at its power switch. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Can spilled liquid cause E05 on a Garland?
It can. Liquid that runs down a knob shaft can reach the potentiometer. Keep the knob area wiped dry.
Is E05 on a Garland a quick repair?
It usually means replacing the potentiometer or switch, which is a routine part change for a technician.
Can I use the Garland with E05 if it comes back on?
If the unit restarts and responds normally to the knob, you can finish the service carefully, but book the repair.

Still showing E05?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
