What HI
actually means.
True builds its units around several control makes, and each prints the high temperature alarm its own way: HI on Carel, Hi on Danfoss, hi on LAE. All three mean the same thing: the probe in the return air reads warmer than the alarm limit stored in the control. The message reports a result, not a cause.

What to do when HI shows on the commercial applianceKind of codeTemperature and alarms
The controller has seen a temperature outside the band it was set for and is saying so: a box above its alarm point, a fryer vat or an oven cavity that tripped its high-limit, or a dish machine rinse that never came up to heat. Often the cause sits outside the unit, such as a door left open during a delivery, a coil packed with grease, a kitchen far hotter than the maker allows or a booster fed cold water. Checking the door, the coil and the air around the unit is fair; move the product if a cold box stays above 41°F, and book the visit.

A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone.

Before you book,
in this order.
Each step comes from True Residential's own guidance for HI on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.
Probe two or three items of food with a calibrated thermometer and write the readings and the time on your temperature log.
Check that every door and drawer is shut, that no pan or box is holding a door off its gasket, and that the air vents inside are not blocked by product.
If food has been above 41°F, move it to a unit that is holding and follow your health code on how long it sat warm.
If HI comes back after the cabinet has had time to recover with the doors closed, book a visit.

It usually turns into reach-in and prep table repair. Book with the code and the model number.
What not to do
HI does not name a failed part; a door propped open during a delivery trips it as easily as a tired compressor. On True units with a Dixell control the same kind of warm alarm reads HA, which has its own entry.

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
