What P2
actually means.

Probe 2 on True's Dixell units is the defrost probe clipped to the evaporator coil. The control uses it to end defrost and to manage the fans after defrost. With P2 showing, defrost falls back on timing, so ice can build on the coil over the following days.

What to do when P2 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from True Residential's own guidance for P2 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Write down when P2 appeared and keep checking food temperatures on your log.

02

Look at the coil area through the grille for heavy white frost; if it is building, the unit may need a manual defrost soon.

03

Book a visit so the probe can be measured before the coil ices over.

It usually turns into commercial controls and board repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

P2 is not the thermostat probe; P1 is. A cabinet with P2 often still holds temperature for a while, which is why it gets ignored until the coil freezes.

Questions
about P2.

Can I clear P2 myself?
Write down when P2 appeared and keep checking food temperatures on your log. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why is my True still cold with P2 showing?
The thermostat probe still controls the compressor, so the cabinet can hold for a while. Defrost is what suffers, and frost builds slowly on the coil.
Can I ignore P2 on a True until the next PM visit?
Not for long. An iced coil stops air moving, and then the cabinet warms quickly.
Is P3 the same as P2 on a True?
No. True's guide lists P3 as the auxiliary probe, used on some units for the display reading.

Still showing P2?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
