What E02
actually means.

Hoshizaki places a second thermistor at the evaporator so the control knows when defrost is finished. When that sensor fails, the display shows E02 and beeps on a one-minute cycle, while the compressor keeps cycling on the cabinet thermistor alone.

What to do when E02 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Hoshizaki's own guidance for E02 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Silence the beep with the upper button.

02

Compare the cabinet reading on the display with a thermometer placed on a middle shelf.

03

Watch for frost on the evaporator cover and weaker airflow at the back of the cabinet over the next days.

04

Book a visit to have the defrost thermistor replaced before the coil builds ice.

It usually turns into commercial controls and board repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E02 does not mean the cabinet is warm, and product is usually still safe when it first appears. It is also not the defrost cycle itself; a normal defrost shows the defrost icon without any code.

Commercial controls and board repair.

Controller, touch panel, probe or sensor, relay, contactor, power supply, door switch or interlock, tested before anything is changed · moderate.

Questions
about E02.

Can I clear E02 myself?
Silence the beep with the upper button. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Does E02 stop the compressor on a Hoshizaki?
No. Hoshizaki's table says the cabinet keeps cycling on its cabinet thermistor, so cooling continues. Only the end of defrost has lost its sensor.
Will a Hoshizaki cabinet ice up while E02 is showing?
It can, given time, because defrost no longer ends on a coil reading. Weaker airflow and frost on the evaporator cover are the signs to book the repair sooner.
How is E02 repaired on a Hoshizaki?
A technician checks the defrost thermistor's reading and replaces it if it is open or shorted. The part is small, but it sits behind the evaporator cover, so it is a service visit rather than a staff task.

Still showing E02?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
