What E18
actually means.

The controller shows HIGH LIMIT PROBLEM together with DISCONNECT POWER. Both the primary control and the mechanical backup have failed to stop the heat, so nothing inside the fryer can be trusted to limit oil temperature. Frymaster's instruction is to remove power from the fryer immediately.

What to do when E18 shows on the commercial appliance

Kind of codeTemperature and alarms

The controller has seen a temperature outside the band it was set for and is saying so: a box above its alarm point, a fryer vat or an oven cavity that tripped its high-limit, or a dish machine rinse that never came up to heat. Often the cause sits outside the unit, such as a door left open during a delivery, a coil packed with grease, a kitchen far hotter than the maker allows or a booster fed cold water. Checking the door, the coil and the air around the unit is fair; move the product if a cold box stays above 41°F, and book the visit.

Shows up asCommercial Appliance Error Code on a Combi, Fryer, Dish Machine or Laundry Display

A commercial appliance error code appears as letters or numbers on a combi, fryer, reach-in controller, dish machine or laundry machine display, or as a flashing light or an alarm tone.

MakeFrymaster

A Frymaster fryer is serviced cold: the visit waits until the oil has come down and the vat has been drained by the crew.

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Frymaster's own guidance for E18 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Switch the fryer off and then cut its power at the breaker or unplug the cord if it can be reached safely and without leaning over hot oil.

02

Clear the area, keep the Class K extinguisher and the hood suppression pull ready, and call 911 at the first sign of flame.

03

Tag the fryer out of service so nobody restarts it, and book a visit; it must not run again until both safety stages are repaired.

What not to do

E18 is not a probe reading issue that can be waited out like E13; it reports real, extreme heat plus a failed safety. Nor does it match E17, where the backup switch opened correctly.

Reach-in and prep table repair.

Questions
about E18.

Can I clear E18 myself?
Switch the fryer off and then cut its power at the breaker or unplug the cord if it can be reached safely and without leaning over hot oil. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Is E18 on a Frymaster an emergency?
Yes. The oil is far above frying heat and the safety that should have stopped it did not, so treat the vat as a fire risk until it has cooled and power is off.
Can we finish service on the other Frymaster vats after an E18?
Only if the other vats are on separate controls and power and are reading normally. The vat that logged E18 stays off and tagged until a technician has replaced what failed.
What usually fails to cause a Frymaster E18?
It takes two failures at once: something kept feeding heat, such as a stuck contactor or gas valve, and the mechanical high limit did not open. The visit covers both.

Still showing E18?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
