What E42
actually means.

During automatic filtration the FQ4000 opens the drain and expects the oil level to drop. If it does not, the controller logs E42 and asks the operator to clear the drain and follow the prompts. Breading and crumbs packed into the drain opening are the usual cause.

What to do when E42 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Frymaster's own guidance for E42 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Let the controller finish its prompts and keep the vat closed while hot oil is still inside.

02

Once the fryer is off and the oil has cooled, clear the drain opening with the clean-out rod supplied for the fryer, as your staff are trained, never by hand.

03

Skim crumbs more often during service; if E42 repeats with a clean drain, the drain valve itself needs a technician.

What not to do

E42 is a flow problem, not a valve position problem: when the valve itself fails to confirm open or closed, the fryer logs E32 or E33. It is also different from E39, which is the filter pad reminder.

Questions
about E42.

Can I clear E42 myself?
Let the controller finish its prompts and keep the vat closed while hot oil is still inside. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
What clogs the drain on a Frymaster FilterQuick?
Crumbs and breading that settle in the bottom of the frypot. Heavy breaded menus need more frequent skimming and filtering.
Is it safe to poke the Frymaster drain while oil is hot?
No. Clearing the drain is done with the fryer off and the oil cooled, using the rod meant for it. Hot oil released suddenly can burn anyone nearby.
Does E42 stop the Frymaster from cooking?
The filter cycle stops until the drain is cleared and the prompts are completed. Whether cooking can continue depends on how much oil is left in the vat.

Still showing E42?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
