actually means.

Airflow was proven and the ignition module tried, but no flame was sensed. Henny Penny lists the gas supply, gas flow, the hose connection and the gas valve as the things to check.

What to do when E-20D shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Henny Penny's own guidance for E-20D on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Press the Timer button once to retry ignition.

02

Check that the gas shutoff for the fryer is open and that other gas equipment on the line is lit; if you smell gas, shut the gas off, keep switches alone and get people out.

03

If the burner still does not light, book a visit; hose connections and the gas valve are for a technician.

What not to do

E-20D is a failed light, not a module that is dead, which is E-20C. It is also not the air switch codes E-20A and E-20B, which stop the fryer before it tries to light.

Questions
about E-20D.

Can I clear E-20D myself?
Press the Timer button once to retry ignition. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Why does a Henny Penny show E-20D after a gas utility shutoff?
Air in the line after the gas has been off can keep the burner from lighting on the first try. A retry with the Timer button often lights it; repeated failures need a technician.
Is E-20D a safety risk?
The control shuts the gas valve when no flame is proven, which is the safe outcome. Any smell of gas around the fryer is a different matter: shut off the gas and leave.
Should staff reconnect a loose gas hose on a Henny Penny?
No. Gas connections are service work. Book a visit and keep the fryer off until the hose is checked.

Still showing E-20D?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
