What E-10
actually means.

The high limit is a separate safety device that watches the shortening. If the oil ever passes its limit, it opens and shuts off the heat on its own, and it stays open until someone resets it by hand once the oil has cooled.

What to do when E-10 shows on the commercial appliance

Before you book,
in this order.

Each step comes from Henny Penny's own guidance for E-10 on its commercial appliances. Follow it to the end: the last card says whether this is a visit.

01

Stop cooking and let the shortening cool fully; if there is smoke or flame, use the hood suppression system and Class K extinguisher as trained and call 911.

02

After the oil is cool, the manual places a red reset button under the control panel behind the door; if nobody on shift has been shown how, book a visit instead.

03

If the high limit will not reset, or trips again, leave the fryer off and book a visit: the limit or the temperature control needs testing.

It usually turns into reach-in and prep table repair. Book with the code and the model number.

What not to do

E-10 is the backup safety speaking, so something let the oil get hot enough to reach it; a probe reading high without a trip shows E-5. A drain valve left open stops heating too, but that shows E-15.

Questions
about E-10.

Can I clear E-10 myself?
Stop cooking and let the shortening cool fully; if there is smoke or flame, use the hood suppression system and Class K extinguisher as trained and call 911. If it comes back, it needs a visit.
Where is the high-limit reset on a Henny Penny pressure fryer?
The operator manual shows a red reset button under the control panel, behind the door. Only press it once the shortening has cooled, and only if staff have been shown how.
Is it safe to keep resetting E-10 on a Henny Penny?
No. The high limit only trips when the oil has overheated, so a second trip means the temperature control is not doing its job and the fryer needs service.
What if the Henny Penny high limit will not reset?
Henny Penny says a limit that will not reset has to be replaced. Keep the fryer off and book a visit.

Still showing E-10?

A booking with a code goes further when it has the code as shown, the model and serial from the data plate, and a word on whether the unit still holds temperature, heats, rinses or spins. With those three, the office can match the likely part to your unit the same day.
