A working restaurant cooking line under a stainless ventilation hood, two stainless gas fryers with baskets hanging above the oil, a flat griddle and a combi oven with a glass door beside them, the equipment clearly the subject, a cook seen only from behind and shoulders down at the far end of the line, warm kitchen light, small blue flames visible under the griddle.

Bakers Pride commercial appliances,
specifically.

Bakers Pride, which began in the Bronx in the middle of the 1940s, sells heavy-duty gas charbroilers, the Dante C, F, L and CH series, alongside countertop ovens for general baking. On this site, Bakers Pride work is mostly charbroilers on the cooking line: pilots, burners, radiants and grates that decide how evenly a steak or burger marks.

Error codesBakers Pride charbroilers and HearthBake countertop ovens have knobs, pilots and a thermostat light rather than a display, so they show no error codes. On the countertop ovens the indicator light going out simply means the set temperature was reached.

What is particular
to Bakers Pride.

We work on Bakers Pride Dante C, F and L radiant and Glo-Stones charbroilers, CH-series extra heavy-duty charbroilers, and HearthBake countertop ovens such as the DP-2. Its deck and pizza ovens are the pizza oven site's work.

Standing pilots, no screen

Bakers Pride charbroilers light from standing pilots and a runner tube and use plain burner valves. There is no display, so a visit starts with the flame, not a code.

Radiants or Glo-Stones

Radiant models set stainless radiants over each burner, while Glo-Stones models use a bed of coals that Bakers Pride says must be its own stones, never lava rock. Piled or wrong coals bring flare-ups and overheated valves.

A tilted grid for grease

The top grid has a flat and a tilted position, and the manual asks for the tilted one when broiling so grease runs to the front trough. A grid left flat means more smoke and more flare-up.

Preheat is part of the recipe

Bakers Pride gives 3 to 5 minutes of preheat for radiant broilers and 15 to 20 for coal models. A line that starts cooking early blames the broiler for poor marks.

Parts

Burner valves, pilots, safety pilot valves, radiants, Glo-Stones and grates are ordered by model and gas type from the data plate. Grates and radiants wear with use and are sensible spares for a busy line.

Repair or replace

A Bakers Pride charbroiler is simple and heavy, so valves, pilots, burners and radiants are almost always worth replacing. A body warped or cracked from years of overheating is where replacement makes more sense.

Questions about
Bakers Pride commercial appliances.

Why won't my Bakers Pride charbroiler stay lit?
Standing pilots go out from drafts, low gas pressure or a dirty pilot. If you smell gas, shut the gas off and leave; otherwise relight it by the manual and arrange service for a pilot that keeps dropping out.
Can I use lava rock in a Bakers Pride Glo-Stones broiler?
No. Bakers Pride says to use only its Glo-Stones, spread evenly, because other coals perform worse and piling them causes flare-ups.
How long should a Bakers Pride charbroiler preheat?
Three to five minutes for radiant models and fifteen to twenty for coal models, according to the manual.
Why is there so much smoke from my Bakers Pride broiler?
Check that the top grid is tilted so grease drains to the front trough, and clean the grids and trough daily.
