What it
usually means.
A commercial tumble dryer, gas or electric, heats air and pushes it through the load and out through a duct. On a gas model, the burner lights only after the controls prove that air is moving through a switch in the airflow, and a flame sensor confirms ignition. On an electric model, elements heat under the same airflow check. Every tumbler also has high-limit controls that cut the heat if the air gets too hot. So the most common cause of no heat is not a failed part at all but air: a lint screen packed at the end of a busy day, or an exhaust duct clogged with lint or crushed behind the stack so the air cannot leave. When air slows, the airflow switch does not close or the high-limit trips, and the burner or elements stay off. Settings play a role too: a store that set a machine to low heat, or a card system with a no-heat cycle selected. After those come the ignition parts on a gas model, the igniter or the gas valve coils, and the elements on an electric one. Because lint is also where laundry fires start, a no-heat case is a reason to look at the duct.
The 6 causes, cheapest first
Answer these first
Does the tumbler turn and blow air, but cool, or does it not run at all?
When were the lint screen and the exhaust duct last cleaned?
Is it gas or electric, and on gas, do you hear the burner click and light?
Is the heat setting, or the card or coin price setting, on a low or no-heat cycle?
Does the outside exhaust hood open and push warm air when the machine runs?
Check these
before you book.
Commercial laundry tumbler not heating: 5 checks, and none of them costs anything.
Clean the lint screen completely, and look for lint collected behind it.
Check the heat setting on the control and, in a vended store, the cycle and price settings in the card or coin system.
Run the tumbler and see whether warm air comes out of the outside exhaust hood.
Also worth checking
- If you smell burning or see smoke, switch it off, keep its door closed, and follow the burning smell page.
- Leave the gas valve, the burner and the wiring to the technician, and never reach into a drum that is turning.
How soon does it need a visit?
A tumbler with no heat can usually wait for a booked visit within a couple of days, with an out-of-order sign on it. One that smells of burning, trips its high-limit repeatedly or smells of gas is handled the same day through the urgent pages.

6 things commercial laundry tumbler not heating: loads still damp after a full cycle turns out to be, from heat setting on low or no heat to igniter or gas valve coils failing to light.
The cost guide-
01 no repair
Heat setting on low or no heat
A cycle or price setting chosen for delicates or changed during setup can leave a tumbler on air only. Checking the setting in the control or the card system restores heat.
-
02 no repair
Lint screen packed at the end of the day
A full screen chokes the airflow, and the airflow switch keeps the heat off. Cleaning it every load or every shift keeps the machine drying and safe.
-
03 low
Exhaust duct clogged or crushed behind the stack
Lint in the duct or a kinked section behind the machine slows the air until the heat shuts off. The duct is cleaned and any crushed section replaced.
-
04 low
High-limit tripped from a choked duct
Heat builds when air cannot leave, and the high-limit opens to protect the tumbler. After the duct is cleared, the limit is tested and replaced if it has failed.
-
05 low to moderate
Airflow switch not proving
A switch stuck with lint or bent out of position reports no air even when the fan is running. It is cleaned or replaced and the burner is watched through several starts.
-
06 low to moderate
Igniter or gas valve coils failing to light
An igniter that glows but does not light the burner, or coils that open the valve only when cold, give heat on and off. The failed part is replaced and the flame confirmed.
